This band rotunda was moved to the Esplanade in Palmerston North.

From personal ephemera collection.

The image shows the Square with the band rotunda on the left, the railway track running through the middle and the Child's Commercial Hotel on the right, on the corner of The Square and Main Street West. The original hotel was built in 1882 and burnt down in 1900, to be replaced by a second Commercial Hotel.  This in turn was demolished in 1935 to be replaced by a third Commercial Hotel, which in turn was demolished in May - June 1986. The Square was once divided into 5 areas. The central strip contained the train lines, gardens, and a Band Rotunda and the King Edward VII Coronation monument (now Coronation Fountain), built in August 1902, which you can just see on the far right.
